Recipe Comparison - Scorpion Bowl

After completing this recipe comparison, I have come to many conclusions, but there is one that is indisputable. I will -never- get scurvy.

1/2oz brandy (used Salignac)
2oz orange juice
3/4oz lemon juice

Reverse Engineering: Kamehameha’s Mighty Punch

I recently returned from a tour of the Hawaiian islands as part of my responsibilities as KaiserPenguin’s West Coast Correspondent. Among the most intriguing cocktails I encountered in my travels was this gem, known as King’s Mighty Punch, at Hilo’s Cafe Pesto on the big island. When I requested the recipe, the bartender supplied it [...]

MxMo Brandy - Pendennis

Marleigh, from over at SLOSHED! is hosting this fine edition of Mixology Monday. After trying a plethora of brandy cocktails and whipping up a couple of new tiki recipes, I decided to fall back on an old favorite.

Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails by Dr. Cocktail was one of the first cocktail books that found its [...]

Tiki Photo Contest Results

When I first dipped my paw into the world of cocktail blogs, pictures were a thing saved for books and the imagination. Now, it’s hard to find a post that doesn’t include a photograph. The quest for most has turned from simply including pictures to improving them and eeking out that last bit [...]

MxMo Orange: Pearl Diver’s Punch

I have had quite the love and hate relationship with the Pearl Diver’s Punch this week. 100% of the hate comes from making it and 100% of the love comes from drinking it.

This drink, simply put, is the Thomas Keller of exotic cocktails. For those of you not familiar with the joys of [...]

Jet Pilot

My goal this post is to motivate those of you who haven’t made falernum or cinnamon syrup to do so. Neither takes the obligatory month and a half like pimento dram. In fact, if you were to start a batch of each after work on Friday, you’d be sipping this cocktail Saturday evening.
Cinnamon [...]

Tiki Ingredients - Round 2

Just when I thought I was making headway in obtaining the final few tiki ingredients to make every exotic cocktail known to man, the Beachbum goes and publishes a new book. To my distress and delight, it contains 11 new ingredients. 11 new ingredients I don’t have. Well, I got some of [...]

Tales of the Cocktail - Friday and Saturday - Update 2

Saturday Recap
12:01am - Gretchen and I were sitting in the lobby of Hotel Monteleone eating awesome pralines from the Southern Candy Makers. More importantly, there was a peanut butter-filled Ritz cracker sandwich coated entirely in bittersweet chocolate. Before long, Chuck and Wesley showed up and joined us in the comfy seats. The [...]
