Original Metaxa Drinks

Thursday Drink Night - two lovely people sharing drink and conversation over the net

Upcoming TDN – Mount Gay XO

Mount Gay Extra Old is one of my favorite rums and offers vast potential for Thursday Drink Night. It’s wonderful on its own and it may be one of the most mixable rums I’ve tried. And to add a high-proof float to the evening, we’ll be crafting original cocktails alongside Chester Browne, Mount Gay’s chief mixologist, who will also be answering any questions you have about Mount Gay products.

As voted on by the participants, the best cocktail of the evening will win a grand prize to be unveiled during the festivities. The rummery begins at 7pm EST.

TDN Metaxa Wrap-Up

The chat room was packed, and so was Erik Ellestad’s house. Metaxa cocktails were spawned like aliens in a hive colony. And they didn’t stop coming. You know, like smarmy aliens. As usual, we had a shaker-primed group of spirits writers, bartenders, and cocktail enthusiasts in the chat room, but the special treat was gathering at Erik’s house in San Francisco, where he prepared a delicious feast. Our hive-mind consisted of: Martin Cate, Gabriel Szaszko, Matt Rowley, Marleigh Riggins, Camper English (oh wait, he didn’t show up), Matt Robold, Michelle Whiting, and Erik Ellestad, and KP writers Adam and Jon.

Winning Cocktail

We generated a host of cocktails live and even more in the chat room, but there can be only one.

  • 1/2oz lime juice

This is a great list of drinks! Quick question, if I want to make this, and I can’t get my hands on any Metaxa, is there something I can use to replace it? I know it’s Greek, but would brandy work? Thanks Neil.
