TDN Repeal Day Wrap-Up

Thursday Drink Night - two lovely people sharing drink and conversation over the net

Upcoming TDN – Pimm’s

Pimm’s is the theme this week! And everyone loves a Pimm’s Cup with a properly cut cucumber sandwich, but how about Pimm’s and Chartreuse or Pimm’s and Castries? Well, pick up a bottle if you don’t have one and join us Thursday night at 7pm EST in the chat room. Or if you’re not doing anything now…

Come chat with us!

TDN Repeal Day

Classic cocktails was the theme last Thursday and we sure didn’t stick to just gin and vermouth. Check out twitter for the whole list of cocktails created during the evening.

Featured Cocktails

  • 1oz gin
  • 1oz Fernet Branca
  • 1/4oz sweet vermouth
  • 1/4oz orange juice
  • orange twist, for garnish

Shake with hand-crafted ice and strain into a chilled imbibing tube.

  • 3/4oz sweet vermouth (used Dolin)
  • 1/4 ounce Strega
  • 1 dash orange bitters (used Regan’s)
  • Chartreuse, to rinse
  • Rinse rocks glass with Chartreuse. Stir with cracked ice and strain into your rocks glass.

    SeanMike from Scofflaw’s Den

Tasty Old Thing

  • 1 1/2oz gin
  • 1 1/2oz Lillet Blanc
  • 1/4oz Aperol

Stir with restrained brevity and a healthy portion of cracked ice. Strain into a chilled vessel.

Matt from A Jigger of Blog

Saas Fee

  • 1 1/2oz absinthe
  • 1/2oz Tia Maria/Castries/nut liqueur

Build delicately in a glass filled with ice. Give it a few flicks of the wrist.

Gabe from cocktailnerd

Neal S. Dow (Father of Prohibition)

  • 1c strong black tea (for the TEETOTAL factor)
  • 1oz Fernet Branca
  • 1 dashes of ALL the bitters you have (for his bitter personality)
  • 1/2oz lemon juice for his sour puss

Mix angrily. Sip heartily.

Some Quotes from this Week and Last

[Nathan] I gotta get the JWray from downstains. It’s with the other solvents.

[cocktailnerd] I think it’s like kissing Sazerac’s cute niece. [referencing the Cocktail a la Louisiane]

[Dr. Bamboo] I love that I’m in a chat room where both andouille and a Snow Crash reference got made within minutes of each other.

KP Question

  • Has anyone else used Zirbenz before? In what?

Themes: Tequila. Hot drinks. Drinks with non-fruit food mixers (Cucumber? Tomato? Spices? Vienna sausages?). Drinks with seltzer/soda water. “Medicinal” drinks (i.e. ones you think might be good for you for some reason- could include bitters, tea, honey). “Old family recipes”- my grandpa made a mean Tom & Jerry, and my Mom makes her own Kahluha! Drinks that reflect our own family ancestry? (i.e. liquors from the part of the world your foreparents were from).

I would like to have tequila as TDN theme sometimes.

Very Nice drink recipes. You guys ever going to do a martini day? There are some really cool ones out there I hear..using cucumber, shiso, other herbs and fruits….and of course…the vesper :) Sharon

Kaiser Penguin is a cocktail blog featuring original recipes, homemade ingredients, classic cocktails, and tiki drinks.

Why on Earth did you name your blog “Kaiser Penguin?”

It is a well-known fact that penguins are members of high society and enjoy fine cocktails. Our very own kaiser penguin would like me to mention that he also enjoys various treats from the sea.
