TDN – Original Chartreuse Cocktails

Thursday Drink Night - two lovely people sharing drink and conversation over the net

Upcoming TDN – Mata Hari Absinthe

I have waited for quite some time to host an absinthe-themed TDN, and now the time is upon us! And to top it off, I have the pleasure of joining several other cocktail writers at the Tabard Inn in D.C. to host the event live. Don’t let that stop you from joining everyone in the chatroom, where we’ll be slinging up brand new cocktails with Mata Hari. Festivities begin at 7pm EST.

TDN Chartreuse Wrap-Up

Chartreuse has produced more quality original cocktails than probably any Thursday Drink Night to date. Usually there are several tasty drinks and a few stand-outs, but this time there were a plethora of just superbly created potions.

Winning Cocktail

Picking the winner was tough this week, so I enlisted the help of a few noted professionals. After some rigorous testing, the victory prize went to Chris from An Exercise in Hospitality.

Greensleeves

  • 1 1/2oz gin
  • 3/4oz green Chartreuse
  • 1/4oz Carpano Antica sweet vermouth
  • 1/2oz orgeat syrup
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters

Shake with prepared intensity and strain into a chilled cocktail glass of triumph.

Why on Earth did you name your blog “Kaiser Penguin?”

It is a well-known fact that penguins are members of high society and enjoy fine cocktails. Our very own kaiser penguin would like me to mention that he also enjoys various treats from the sea.
