Original Absinthe Cocktails

Streets of London

Upcoming TDN – Swizzle

Pouring high-proof rum over the bed of crushed ice brings me joy and happiness. But what about gin and Chartreuse? Or vermouth and Peychaud bitters? This coming Thursday we’ll be making more swizzles than you can twirl a stick at. And as voted on by the participants, the best cocktail of the evening will win… something cool. The ice crushing begins at 7pm EST.

TDN Absinthe Wrap-Up

Absinthe proved to be less of a curmudgeon to work with than expected, so we had a great selection of titillating creations to show for our efforts. Though at some point in the evening, many of us just started making absinthe frappes. Perhaps that explains why we just put up the poll today to determine who will win a bottle of Marteau absinthe.

Go vote for the winning cocktail!

Jericho

Rye and Passion

  • 2oz rye whiskey
  • 1oz lemon juice
  • 1/2oz passion fruit syrup
  • 1/2oz grenadine
  • absinthe, to rinse

Shake, toss, turn, and even fedabble a bit, then strain into an absinthe-rinsed tin cup filled with hand-crushed ice.

Appsinthe

  • 1 1/2oz calvados
  • 1/2oz absinthe

Tiare's Garden

Tiare’s Garden

  • 1oz Kubler absinthe
  • 1oz dark Jamaican rum (Coruba or Appleton Extra work well)
  • 1oz grapefruit juice
  • 3/4oz orgeat syrup
  • 1 dash celery bitters
  • Ting, to top

Shake with crushed ice, and watch as the absinthe turns a creamy white. Just don’t hit yourself in the face with the shaker. Donate to a tall glass, top with Ting, and garnish with an aromatic flower.

Rick from Kaiser Penguin

Belle Epoque-alypse

  • 1 1/2 London dry gin
  • 3/4oz Averna
  • 3/4oz Apfelkorn
  • 1/4oz Kubler absinthe
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters

Pour this menacingly perfect array of ingredients into your shaker. Top with cracked ice, and shake like a witchdoctor. Strain into the chilled, shrunken head of Jamie Boudreau.

Kaiser Penguin is a cocktail blog featuring original recipes, homemade ingredients, classic cocktails, and tiki drinks.

Why on Earth did you name your blog “Kaiser Penguin?”

It is a well-known fact that penguins are members of high society and enjoy fine cocktails. Our very own kaiser penguin would like me to mention that he also enjoys various treats from the sea.
