Original “Rinsed” Cocktails – TDN
Upcoming TDN Telephone
No, it’s not the new cocktail version of the iPhone, but it’s sure different from our usual Thursday Drink Night themes. Remember the game “telephone” from when you were a child? Well, TDN will kick off with the person at the top of the chatroom list submitting a drink. 15 minutes later the next person on the list will be called on to modify one ingredient from the previous drink and change the proportions of any of the other ingredients. Shake, guzzle, wait 15 minutes, repeat…
The winning cocktail of the evening (as determined by a poll on the Mixoloseum Blog) will receive some high-quality bar ware courtesy of Mud Puddle Books:
- The original British Bonzer, 10 inch, stainless steel mixing spoon with a sugar crusher end. Much sturdier than any found in the US
- A two-eared, stainless steel hawthorne strainer that is only available in the UK. Very heavy duty
The action begins at 7pm EST, so…

TDN “Rinse” Wrap-Up
We rinsed our cocktail glasses with everything from D’Arisiti Xtabentin liqueur to flaming rum, and the cocktails ran the gamut from simple to downright crazy. A ton of them were good, too, but only one came out on top:
Cellar Door
- 3/4oz passion fruit syrup
- 1/2oz cinnamon syrup
- 1/2oz Cruzan Blackstrap rum
- 1oz pisco
- 1oz gin
- 3/4oz Meyer lemon juice
- Rinse: rhubarb bitters and orange flower water
Rinse glass with a few dashes each of rhubarb bitters and orange flower water. Shake this melange of flavors with fervent speed, and strain into your most proud cocktail vessel.

[…] SeanMike created what looks to be a negative space Sazerac, the Sazeritif, for last week’s Thursday Drink Night of rinses. […]
Once again all the TDN drinks sound promising (or better), but 1/2 dash of absinthe in the Sazeritif? What the f$%k is a 1/2 dash? Different sites list different approximations for a dash so I just put my dashing ingredients (dashees?) in empty Angostura bottles but my technique isn’t that refined to somehow get a 1/2 dash out of the bottle. Help a brother out over here!
Cellar Door…sounds good…(makes me think of “Zombie Entrance”)…but where’s the recipe for the cinnamon syrup?
Cinnamon Syrup Recipe: http://www.kaiserpenguin.com/jet-pilot/ I’d adjust the sugar to water to 2c sugar and 1c water, however. Will be more concentrated and keep longer.
[…] that I cribbed from another blogger was the orange flower water. A post on Kaiser Penguin has a drink with a glass rinse of the rhubarb bitters and the flower water. I wanted the orange to hint of the […]
