Original Mount Gay Rum Cocktails

Good Hurt

Upcoming TDN and Chat – Absinthe

To piggyback on Tuesday’s upcoming Absinthe Chat with the Wormwood Society (and friends), the theme for this week’s Thursday Drink Night will be absinthe! Whether using a nano-drop or a five ounce death pour, every drink of the night will be made with our favorite louching spirit [ok, that link is simply mindblowing].

As voted on by the participants, the best cocktail of the evening will win a bottle of Marteau absinthe courtesy of Gwydion Stone. The louching begins at 7pm EST.

TDN Mount Gay XO Wrap-Up

I’ve been saying this a lot lately, but this past week’s TDN was one of the most well-attending and raucously fantastic events we’ve done to date. A record-breaking 46 cocktails were created and the majority of them were quite tasty, a tribute to such a wonderful rum. Chester Browne, head man of awesome at Mount Gay, joined us for drinks and some questions and even offered a bottle of Mount Gay 1703 for the winning cocktail.

Winning Cocktail

Aar matey

If there was any TDN I wanted to sabotage the voting, it was this one, but I could spot more than a few tiki gods eying me menacingly… so I squared up and voted for the tastiest drink. Stevi Deter, author of one of my favorite cocktail blogs, Two At The Most, took the prize with this unexpected delight.

Milanese Sailor

  • 1 1/2oz Mount Gay Extra Old rum
  • 3/4oz Ramazzotti Amaro
  • 1/4oz falernum
  • 1/4oz creme de cacao

Fill the spyglass nearest by with ice and donate the above ingredients. Shake. Do not hold up to your eye, but instead strain into a chilled wooden mug hand.

  • 1/2oz cherry brandy

  • lime peel, for garnish

Shake with hand-cracked ice and donate to your skinniest collins glass. Top with soda and watch it bubble and foam. Like…
